As Myanmar junta's ministry of information announced on Dec 24, 2023, Mekong News has become the latest media outlet whose license had been revoked by the junta. There have been at least 15 such media outlets since February 2021.
Mizzima, DVB, Myanmar Now, Khit Thit, and 7 Days were the first five media outlets to have their licenses revoked on March 8, 2021, followed by Tachileik News Agency, Myitkyina News Journal and the 74 Media in April, Zayar Times in July, and Delta News Agency in October respectively.
In 2022, at least three media outlets had their licenses revoked: Kantarawaddy Times, Independent Mon News Agency and The Irrawaddy.
The Ayeyarwaddy Times and Mekong News were the latest media outlets that met the same oppression by the junta in 2023.
According to credible sources we checked and verified, at least 5 publishing houses and 4 associated printing businesses had their business licenses revoked as well since February 2021. Meanwhile, The latest figures from RSF show that at least 58 journalists and 3 media workers are currently detained in Myanmar.
