Myanmar military justified the attempted coup on February 1, 2021, with the fabricated 'electoral fraud' narrative, overthrowing the legitimate government and abolishing the dominant political parties through its illegitimately appointed Union Election Commission (UEC).
On November 22, 2024, the UEC further perpetuated the 'electoral fraud' narrative, announcing the launch of a website and a mobile application that shows the so-called "Findings on the Investigation of Electoral Frauds and Malpractices in 2020 Multi-Party Democracy Election." According to the UEC, the website and mobile app are available in five languages - Myanmar, English, Chinese, Russian, and Japanese.
The findings are categorized into seven main chapters citing "voter list errors" and accusing the UEC and NLD party of "misusing power."
To prevent the further dissemination of a harmful narrative fabricated by the Myanmar military, which has caused significant real-world harm, Myanmar Election Watch has omitted the link to the website.
Instead, we encourage our readers to visit our webpage containing credible international and local election observers' reports, statements, and publications with regard to the 2020 Myanmar General Elections. (RESOURCES > Publications on Myanmar Elections)
Furthermore, we will soon publish a resource pack that dismantles the Myanmar junta's 'electoral fraud' narrative. The resource pack is produced as a go-to resource for journalists, researchers, and anyone in the Myanmar election space, and will include credible election observation reports by international and local observers along with the download links, statements from international organizations and governments, academic and analytical publications, and other evidence-based data.
Stay updated with our blog for the launch of the resource pack.
