Monitoring the Union Election Commission Appointed by Myanmar Junta: April Recap

THE JUNTA-APPOINTED UNION ELECTION COMMISSION (UEC) HAS ORGANIZED OR ENGAGED IN VARIOUS SHAM ELECTION-RELATED ACTIVITIES, WHICH WE WILL REGULARLY MONITOR AND UPDATE ON THIS BLOG. 

We source the data from the News section of the UEC website. The following chart shows the summary of UEC activities from April 1 to 30, 2024.

Most noteworthy activities include:

  • UEC demonstrated the use of Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM) in different townships in Bago region. Previously, UEC organised such events in Yangon, Mandalay, and Ayeyarwaddy regions. 
  • UEC approved the establishment of two political parties, namely Mon Development Party, and Nyeinchanye Akyosaung (Peace Agent/Betterment; unofficial translation) Party. 
  • UEC Chair U Ko Ko met Mr. Chen Hai, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar on April 26, 2024 to discuss matters related to the "election."
