Monitoring Myanmar Junta-Appointed Union Election Commission: November 2024 Recap

THE MYANMAR JUNTA-APPOINTED UNION ELECTION COMMISSION (UEC) HAS ORGANIZED OR ENGAGED IN VARIOUS SHAM ELECTION-RELATED ACTIVITIES, WHICH WE MONITOR AND UPDATE ON THIS BLOG MONTHLY.

We source the data from the News section of the UEC website. The following chart shows UEC activities from November 1 to 30, 2024.

UEC accelerated sham election-related activities this month. Most noteworthy activities include:

  • Organizing two Training of Trainers (ToT) series for officers of regional election commissions and sub-commissions from Kayah, Chin, Rakhine states, and Sagaing region to train the usage of Myanmar Electronic Voting Machines (MEVM) that will be used in the upcoming sham election. The two trainings were organized throughout November and according to the UEC website, 53 trainees (UEC officers) attended.
  • UEC approved the applications of two political parties - Union Farmer-Labour Force Party and Socioeconomic Development Party (unofficial translation) to register as political parties. They became the 51st and 52nd registered parties respectively.
  • UEC rejected the application of the Public Contribute Students Party to register as a political party.
  • UEC announced the launch of the website and mobile application for "Findings on the Investigation of Electoral Frauds and Malpractices in 2020 Multi-Party Democracy General Election," available in five languages (English, Myanmar, Chinese, Russian, and Japanese). Myanmar Election Watch has omitted the link to the website to prevent further dissemination of the harmful 'electoral fraud' narrative fabricated by the Myanmar military to justify the attempted coup in 2021.
