The junta-appointed Union Election Commission (UEC) has organized or engaged in various sham election-related activities, which we will regularly monitor and update on this blog.
We source the data from the News section of the UEC website. The following chart shows the summary of UEC activities from February 1 to 29.
Most noteworthy activities include:
- There were 14 events in February where UEC demonstrated the use of Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM) mainly in Ayeyarwaddy region. The same has been done in Yangon and Mandalay regions in the past months.
- MEVM demonstrations show that UEC is targeting the regions with the highest population (Yangon, Mandalay, and Ayeyarwaddy).
- There was a mention of the "Nationwide Census" which is to be held in October 2024, highlighting the potential abuse of census data against citizens, amidst the recently announced Conscription Law.
