At the General Discussion on Social Development of the Third Committee of the Seventy-Ninth session of the UN General Assembly on 4 October 2024, Myanmar Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun condemned the unlawful military coup attempt and reiterated the people of Myanmar's rejection of the junta-planned sham election.

The [partial] statement said,
"I wish to emphasize that free and fair elections are fundamental value of democracy. However, any election to be organized by the military junta in this situation will never be a free, fair and inclusive election. The junta’s planned sham election is not a solution for the crisis but rather will create more violence and protract the conflict.
Therefore the people of Myanmar are resolute, and we strongly oppose the junta’s planned sham election. We call for the international community to do the same."
