THE MYANMAR JUNTA-APPOINTED UNION ELECTION COMMISSION (UEC) HAS ORGANIZED OR ENGAGED IN VARIOUS SHAM ELECTION-RELATED ACTIVITIES, WHICH WE MONITOR AND UPDATE ON THIS BLOG MONTHLY.

We source the data from the News section of the UEC website. The following chart shows UEC activities from December 1 to 31, 2024.
UEC accelerated sham election-related activities this month. Most noteworthy activities include:
- UEC approved the application of the Unity and Development Party (UADP) to register as a political party. UADP became the 53rd registered party.
- UEC approved the application of the Kayah State People Party (KySPP) to establish as a political party.
- UEC Chair U Ko Ko held talks with Mr. Sholban Kara-Ool, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, at the UEC office on 3rd December and discussed ways for Russia to assist in the Myanmar junta-planned election.
- UEC Chair U Ko Ko met the representatives from 53 registered political parties. The key takeaway from the meeting is that UEC will allow local and international "election observers" to observe the "election."
- UEC members also met the junta-appointed Shan State government and Kayin State government to discuss preparations regarding the "election."
- UEC also announced vacancies for 21 officer positions, implying the increased election-related activities.
